Here’s What That Night Meant to Us

Last week, I sat in a room full of amazing local businesses at the Hyatt Regency for the Local Business Awards, not knowing what to expect.

When they called out Dad & The Frog Café as the winner for Outstanding Café, I froze. My heart dropped. It was one of those moments that catches you off guard—in the best way.

Running a café, showing up every day, and being part of people’s lives has always been worth it on its own. The support we’ve received and the chance to keep growing and adding value to this little corner of Surry Hills is already something we’re deeply proud of. But receiving this kind of recognition reminded us that we’re heading in the right direction—that we really are creating something special for the people who walk through our doors.

To our customers, thank you. Whether you’ve been with us since the start or just found us recently, your support keeps us going. You’ve shown up through the rain, the heat, the renovations, the staffing shortages, and all the growing pains that come with running a local café.

To our Surry Hills locals and regulars, you are the soul of this place. You’ve let us be part of your routines, your weekends, your caffeine cravings and your conversations. This café belongs to you as much as it does to us.

To our team, past and present, thank you for showing up and giving your best, day in and day out. It’s your energy, your hustle, your warmth and your standards that make Dad & The Frog what it is. I’m so proud of what we’ve built together.

And lastly, to our family, thank you for the late nights, the sacrifices, the encouragement and the belief. You’ve carried us through more than most people will ever know.

Winning Outstanding Café wasn’t just a nice moment. It was a reminder that we’re doing something real here.
